Emergency: call or text 911. Jacksonville non-emergency: (904) 630-0500.

Hurricane season

When the power is out, use the phone.

Call or text 911 if someone is in danger or a line is down in the street. The outage number is the company on the bill. Look up an evacuation zone on the county map below. Open shelters are named when a storm is coming.

Know your zone

Type the address on the county’s own map. An evacuation order names the letters that have to leave. The maps below are the official ones, checked October 15, 2026.

Duval County

Jacksonville, the beach cities, and Baldwin share this map. Zones are lettered A through F. Zone A is the most vulnerable and is usually the first to be evacuated, and that includes manufactured and mobile homes. JaxReady is where the city posts what is happening. If the address search is hard to use, the city’s page says to call 630-CITY.

Clay County

Zones are lettered A through E, including the North Prong and the South Prong of Black Creek. White areas on that map sit outside an evacuation zone. Every mobile home and manufactured home in Clay County is Zone A, wherever it sits. The county asks people to treat a public shelter as a last resort once an evacuation is ordered.

St. Johns County

Emergency Management answers at the number below. The office is at 100 EOC Drive, St. Augustine, FL 32092. The department’s zone locator takes an address. The county also posts designated school shelters, and it says to check which of them are open once an order is issued.

Before the storm

Print the fridge sheet or the one for your part of town. Charge the phone. A website is a poor plan once the power and the cell towers are strained.

Shelters

Watch JaxReady for Duval, and the St. Johns and Clay pages above, for which shelters are open. Dial 211 if you need help finding a service and cannot get through to the county.

Sulzbacher, Trinity Rescue Mission, and City Rescue Mission are everyday shelters for people without housing. They are listed under Shelter and help. Evacuation shelters are a separate announcement for each storm.

After the lights go out

Stay away from a downed line and call the outage number, or 911 if it is an immediate danger. A sewage backup into a Jacksonville home on JEA service is also the JEA outage line, day or night. Beach cities and Clay have their own after-hours water numbers on the address page.
