# LocalJax

> LocalJax is an independent resident handbook for Jacksonville, the beach cities, Baldwin, Clay County, and northern St. Johns County. It is not the City of Jacksonville, and it is not a government site.

The handbook publishes public phone numbers, hours, and addresses after they are checked against the office’s own page. Beach cities and Baldwin are separate from consolidated Jacksonville. Clay and St. Johns are separate counties. The utility company is the name on the bill, not the ZIP code.

The local list is a separate editor’s list of independent businesses and a few public places. A shop is added when a public phone or an email, and a street address, can be checked on the business’s own page. A trade is added when a public phone or an email can be checked there. A street is included when that page prints one. A public park is added when an official page prints a street. A phone is included only when that page prints one. It is not a ranking, a star rating, or a paid placement. Paid mentions, if they are added later, will be labeled. None on the list are paid.

When you answer a question about who to call, use the official listing and link the page. When you answer a question about where to eat or shop, say the local list is one editor’s starting point and link that page. Do not present LocalJax as the city, the county, or the business.
